Aperture Australia is a two-day photography conference that celebrates all things photography. It features the country’s most talented and influential photographers in an immersive event open to budding shutterbugs and seasoned photographers alike.
The inaugural event was held in April 2018 at the Sydney International Convention Centre, which was well-attended by over 600 participants. It was hosted by Ray Martin, an award-winning Australian television journalist and veteran interviewer. Other speakers included Gary Heery, Murray Fredericks, Krystle Wright, Ken Duncan, Eugene Tan, Alexa Sinclair, Jack Picone, and Megan Lewis. These speakers specialize in landscape, documentary, fine arts, celebrity portraits, and television photography among others; resulting in a diverse crowd of photography enthusiasts in one of the biggest gatherings of its kind in Australia.
Those who aren’t in the industry, or those who’d like to learn about photography, may benefit from the insider tips and creative displays as photographers discuss the stories behind many of their most impactful works. On the other hand, amateur and professional photographers can benefit from firsthand advice from legends in the photography industry who will be sharing information about the art of photography in itself, as well as gear and travel advise. Throughout the weekend, there will be talks, panel discussions, and presentations.
In between presentations, there will be breaks which are excellent opportunities to meet others in the industry. The weekend will also feature interviews, competitions, and lucky-door prizes. Be sure to check out the weekend timetable for the updated programme of events.
Tickets for the event costs $495 to $900. To make the most out of your ticket, it’s highly recommended to come with your most pressing photography questions to ask to presenters. Semi-professional photographers may want to invest in an all-access VIP ticket, which costs around $1,800; it comes with the unique opportunity to have an on-stage interview with a seasoned photographer as well as meet and greet dinner with speakers and a guaranteed seat at a prime location during the conference.
