The Queer Screen film festival is one of the biggest LGBT film events in Australia, with the 5-day-long celebration aiming to raise awareness of sexual diversities and gender identities through queer film.
Taking place every September, the festival showcases films, shorts, and documentaries across a wide range of LGBTIQ angles.

The Mardi Gras Film Festival is also a platform for queer filmmakers to participate in a competition of Australian short films. A brand-new addition to the event is the Queer Screen Pitch Off, an initiative that helps LGBTIQ filmmakers in Australia compete in a pitch to win $10,000 in capital for the production of short films. The events are well-attended by the local community, with thousands coming to see the films.
The films are screened at the Event Cinemas George Street in the Sydney CBD.
