Penrith

Penrith is a popular suburb in Sydney, located 50 kilometres from the CBD. This suburb serves as the administrative centre of the City of Penrith, and more importantly, it is one of the four cities in Sydney’s metropolitan area.

Historically, the suburb was named after Penrith, an English town. This is believed to have come about because of the uncanny similarities between the towns, with the earliest reference made in 1819.

Before the colonial era, the town was home to the Darug people, who followed a traditional way of life.

Since the colonial era, Penrith has grown to be one of the most beautiful suburbs in Sydney. One of the best places to enjoy this suburb’s attractions is The Rock Lookout area within the Blue Mountains National Park. The lookout point in the iconic Mulgoa Valley provides panoramic views of the Nepean River and the surrounding gorge. It is the perfect location for bushwalkers looking for an outdoor adventure.

Make time to visit the Bents Basin State Conservation Area, a perfect destination for swimming, picnics, and camping. The conservation area constitutes part of the gorge’s gorgeous structure, offering spectacular views. Alternatively, take on the Caleys Lookout track to soak in the region’s beautiful sights.

For those who love an adrenaline rush, nothing beats the Luddenham Raceway—one of the latest go-kart centres in Sydney. It features a 600-metre track for pros and a 200-metre track for junior racers. Other adrenaline-pumping activities include teeing off at Penrith Golf and Recreation and kayaking at Penrith Whitewater Stadium.

Don’t miss the opportunity to check out unique artworks at Penrith Regional Gallery and the Lewers Bequest. The Model Park is a place that the kids will enjoy, so feel free to bring them along and marvel at the country’s most extensive model engineering organisation.
