State of Origin

The State of Origin is one of the biggest events on the Australian sporting calendar.

The event is a series of three rugby league matches between the Queensland Maroons and the New South Wales Blues and the best players from the National League are selected to represent their state each year.

The rivalry between these two teams is one of the most celebrated in Australian sport and each year thousands of people come to watch the three games around Australia in Sydney, Brisbane and another neutral capital city (previously has included Melbourne and Adelaide). The games are hosted in the winter season, typically during June and July each year.

Tickets for all State of Origin games are in high demand and sell out quickly. The seating map for each venue varies for each state and includes the ANZ Stadium for Sydney and Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. If you miss out on tickets, the games are televised all over Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, as well as many other countries internationally. Millions of people watch the State of Origin each year and it is a ratings winner for the broadcasters.

ANZ Stadium is located on Edwin Flack Avenue within the Sydney Olympic Park. The closest train station to ANZ Stadium is Olympic Park and the best way to travel there is to catch a direct train from Lidcombe Station, with trains operating every 10 – 20 minutes.
