Canowindra International Balloon Challenge

The Canowindra International Balloon Challenge is a spectacular event that turns the sky into a fiesta of colour with vibrant hot air balloons reaching up into the sky.

Each year, the sky bursts to life when all of the hot air balloons take flight in the completion and commercial flying, and it is unlike anything you have ever seen before!

The Canowindra International Balloon Challenge is held annually in the second week of the NSW school holidays. During the event, the town welcomes over 10 thousand visitors to see the balloons, with this time of year having ideal weather, including calm wind currents and cool temperatures.

The event’s highlight is the night balloon glow, fire, and light spectacular with wine, food and craft markets. This is the best place for visitors to experience the town’s finest dining and art. At the Balloon Glow, hot air balloons light up the night sky high above the Night Market. This highlight of the week and the festival where balloons light up their burners in the dark to serene music. Glow wands are available to purchase so kids can sing along and dance with the balloons sailing above them in the night sky.

Over the years, the event has continued to grow, and in 2014 and 2015, the event was granted the sanction for a Category 2 International Balloon Competition by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI).

Visitors during the event also have the opportunity to take flight in one of the balloons for the ultimate experience.
