Culinary Carnival

The Culinary Carnival is the Fairfield City Council’s annual Latin American and Spanish street party in May at Spencer Street in Fairfield.

Food has always been a major attraction of the event.

The 10-meter-long Asado is a popular hit; a traditional barbecue dish in Chile, Uruguay, Chile, and Paraguay has kept people returning year after year. Other popular foods served at the festival include beef and pork choripan, ribs with chimichurri, empanadas, paella, tapas, arepas, tamales, tacos, caramel dulce de leche, alfajores, gelato, churros, and more.

The event has also been listed as an iconic element of the yearly Good Food Month because of the sheer abundance of authentic Latin American delicacies.

Culinary Carnival grows yearly, with an entertainment line-up that ensures fun for all ages. Past performers included Christine Anu, a famous indigenous performer; Comparsa Urumbe, an Uruguayan dance and drum group; Victor Valdes Y Su Mariachi, the Tierra Colombiana dancers; and many more.

Other attractions at the event include cultural performances, cooking demonstrations, celebrity chefs, and a showcase of all things Latino and Spanish. Dancers come decked out in intricate and colourful costumes, while kids and adults are invited to participate in the carnival and amusement rides.

Entrance and entertainment throughout the one-day event will be free of charge. The easiest way to get here is to take the train; it’s only a 100-meter walk from Fairfield Station to Spencer Street.
