The suburb was named after Joseph Potts; an employee of the Bank of New South Wales. This is because he bought a parcel of land by the harbour, which was referred to as Woolloomooloo Hill. He then renamed it Potts Point.

One of the most alluring destinations within the suburb is Kings Cross. Contrary to popular belief, King’s Cross is not an official Sydney suburb. Instead, it is a locality that straddles several suburbs that include Potts Point. This commercial area is home to many stores and entertainment spots that range from bars to nightclubs, bookstores and cafes, amongst others. It is the perfect way to experience the region’s diverse culture.

While at it, if you love retail therapy, you will certainly enjoy spending time at Becker Minty. This store is a charming store at the intersection of fashion, lifestyle and homeware. Top this up with floral purchases from Grandiflora to add some blooming beauties to your collection.

Explore the Elizabeth Bay House and walk back in time to experience what it felt like to stroll across the most elegant house in the colony at the time. The house was constructed between 1835 – 1839 and has undergone restoration severally to maintain its integrity as a house museum.

For those who would like an artsy angle to life, how about The Real Store? This attraction showcases the need for social, ethical and sustainable living with stuff that will get your attention. Artspace Sydney is also worth visiting as it provides a creative space for audiences to connect with their favourite artists.

Other attractions at Potts Point include the Royal Australian Navy Heritage Centre, as well as the Love Lee Boutique. A reliable transport system makes it easy to navigate this small suburb and explore its beautiful gems.
