The suburb’s history has been linked to a man, Mortimer Lewis who owned large tracts of land in the mid-19th century. Lewis, who was the then colonial architect, constructed his palatial house and named it Bronte House after a town located in Italy. Presently, the single storey house is on the Register of the National Estate.

It is leased to private tenants who in turn open the house to the public for a couple of days each year. History buffs who appreciate learning more about the suburbs history will enjoy a tour of the iconic Bronte House.
