Pymble

Pymble is a suburb located on the upper North Shore of Sydney City, ten kilometres from the CBD. The suburb is in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council, and must not be confused with west Pymble, which is a separate entity located close to the Lane Cove National Park.

The suburb was named after Robert Pymble, one of the region’s most powerful settlers who got large tracts of land from the grants given.

This region was vital because it was an essential supplier of timber which had many commercial uses, with the most common type been the blue gum, ironbark, Blackbutt and Stringybark.

Today, the affluent suburb is mostly a residential area if the many stately homes and lush gardens are anything to go by. There are many parks and natural reserves too, making it a laid-back destination for visitors who appreciate some tranquillity.

Explore the suburb’s dining scene when you visit any of its excellent restaurants. Start at The Sawmill where you get to enjoy pizza made using the freshest ingredients or opt for Maslow’s Sydney – a relaxed cafe that whips up some of the most delicious meals. If you are looking for that neighbourhood vibe with a casual feel to it, then Argo Restaurant will not disappoint.

Once you have had your fill, head out to Bannockburn Oval, an outdoor sports ground that promises an unforgettable experience. It is an excellent place for the little ones to practice their skills at different sports. Best of all is that in addition to the sports facilities, the oval also has ample grassy space for the kids to run around as well as amenities to make the time spent here worthwhile.

For nature lovers, Sheldon Forest makes for an ideal option. This pocket of bushland has walking trails for visitors to enjoy. Alternatively, head to the Turramurra Memorial Park for a much-needed retreat. Other options include the Pymble Soldiers Memorial Park, as well as Friars Field.

There is something for the whole family to enjoy when visiting Pymble.
