As expected, the suburb’s name was inspired by the presence of Brighton Beach, which is also known as Lady Robinsons Beach. The latter was given to honour the life of Governor Sir Robinson’s wife. This quiet beach is the perfect retreat for a calm weekend in solitude. The beach is ideal for families as it has very gentle waves. What’s more, it is protected by a shark net, making it a safe place to swim year round.

Look out for the bike racks where you can park before heading to enjoy a refreshing dip. Other amenities available at the beach include a kiosk, grassy sections perfect for picnics, BBQs, sheltered tables and several playgrounds.

Plane watching is a favourite activity at the beach too, and it is exciting to watch as kids squeal at the aeroplanes taking off and landing at the nearby Sydney Airport. Other fun activities at the beach include fishing and snorkelling.

Away from the beach, there is also the option of enjoying retail therapy at the key shopping precinct along Bay Street. This precinct goes beyond the foreshore around The Grand Parade area, marking the ideal place to get accommodation. Look out for the resplendent Novotel Hotel Brighton Beach that offers stellar accommodation with excellent beach views.

There are many places to discover different tastes that your palate will love. These include Kamari Greek Taverna, Cafe Neptune for Mediterranean flavours as well as Signature Brasserie for dining with a view.

For first time visitors, it is essential to note that Brighton Le Sands suburb has minimal options for public transport. Bus services are available on different routes connecting to different parts of the city. A single hourly bus runs between the CBD and Miranda Shopping Centre from where one can connect to Rockdale train station.
