The Martin Place Christmas Concert and Tree Lighting is an annual holiday event. It takes place at Martin Place, located in the heart of Sydney’s central business district, late in November.
The family friendly event takes place during the evening, around 5:45PM onwards. The many attractions include concerts and entertainment, fireworks, song and dance performances, and a special appearance from Santa Claus arriving on his cycle-drawn sleigh for the kids. The highlight of the free event is the lighting of the Christmas tree, and if you’ve got a special message you’d like lit up on the tree, there’s an option of sending it in too for everyone to see. The event culminates with fireworks at 8:30PM, which coincides with the lighting up of the famous interactive Martin Place Christmas Tree for the very first time each year.
There will also be Christmas stockings filled with goods for sale at a low price, and all proceeds will go to charity. During the event, nearby outlets such as the GPO Grand restaurants and the MLC Centre Food Court will be open serving food, drink, and even desserts. After the main event, there will be choirs performing at the tree each night until Christmas. Entrance is completely free of charge.
Companion animals will be permitted at Martin Place Christmas Concert and Tree Lighting.
