Oxford Street

Oxford Street is one of Sydney’s favourite shopping strips, and a must visit for anyone looking for a unique shopping experience. The street runs from Bondi Junction in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs to Whitlam Square, which is on the south-east of Hyde Park.

The street’s proximity to the CBD makes it a favourite for locals and a preferred area for visitors; lined with many bars, clubs and shops that offer a unique Sydney shopping experience.

Whether you are looking to enjoy casual dining in the heart of Sydney, or are looking for some contemporary fashion, Oxford Street does not disappoint.

Look out for the chic boutiques located at the intersection on the corner of Glenmore Road. Home to some of Australia’s most experienced fashion designers, you can expect to come across works by Camilla, Rachel Gilbert, Ksubi and sass&bide, among others.

Visit Paddington Markets (held every Saturday) and support local arts as you traverse the community’s diverse and unique art scene. The best thing about shopping on market days is that part of the money collected helps support the community’s homeless and the disadvantaged.

Treat yourself to some handmade chocolates available at Just William Chocolates nearby. Just William has earned the reputation of quality chocolates, and it is not uncommon to find customers looking for customised options that reflect their taste.

Over the years, the western part of Oxford Street has been recognised as the main gay district in the city. As a result, the street is closed to traffic once a year to make way for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, a colourful festival that celebrates the gay community in Sydney.

It is also important to mention that the street is home to heritage buildings such as the Paddington Town Hall, the Victoria Barracks, St. Vincent’s Hospital, as well as the Australian Museum.
