Home to ships, boats, exhibitions and informative displays, there is much to enjoy at the Maritime Museum. Take a trip into a submarine and enjoy the fantastic underwater world. Head out onto some large ships and view the massive gun destroyers.

The HMB Endeavour is a vessel on display that best captures Captain Cook’s journey of discovery. This ship is one of the world’s most precise replica vessels, so take a step back in time and walk around its decks to imagine what this voyage must have felt like.

Other vessels worth checking out include Thistle (the smallest vessel in the collection), Akarana (the oldest), and the Krait Trawler. In addition to the ships, the Australian National Maritime Museum hosts regular events, such as the weekly Family Fun Sunday, the Seaside Strollers Tour, and a host of kids’ activities.

Free Wifi is available in the museum, and there is a cloakroom in the main foyer. The museum is accessible for wheelchairs and prams; however, the ships are not, as climbing and narrow spaces exist. There is a museum kiosk on site where you can purchase lunch or a light snack, and there are also picnic tables on-site if you would like to bring your lunch.

The Australian National Maritime Museum can be reached by train. Alight at Town Hall or Central Station, and the museum is 20 minutes away. If you wish to drive, you can park at the Harbourside Car Park for around $15 per day with a rebate from the museum.
