Strathfield

Strathfield is an Inner-West suburb of Sydney located just 12 kilometres from the CBD. It serves as the administrative centre of the Strathfield Local Government area, with a small region of the suburb in the City of Canada Bay.

Most importantly, this suburb should not be confused with North Strathfield and Strathfield South, both of which are separate entities.

The region on which the suburb is now located was once home for the Wangal people, an indigenous community that lived there in the early 18th century. The Europeans started settling in the area in 1793 with the issuance of land grants. Years later, it is thought that the construction of the ‘Strathfield House’ inspired the suburb’s name.

Today, Strathfield has a thriving commercial scene that is a favourite for shoppers. The Strathfield Plaza shopping centre is one of the most iconic places to visit while in the area. Woolworths is a major store and is ideal for your household shopping. Close to the plaza lies a shopping strip that features boutique stores, cafes and restaurants.

The shopping centre is conveniently located close to the Strathfield Railway Station, which provides easy access to the suburb’s primary forms of transport. For motorists, the M4 Western Motorway delivers a quick way to get to and from Strathfield to other nearby suburbs.

Visitors can also enjoy solitude along Cooks River Cycleway, which provides scenic views of the waterway. So, whether you would like to enjoy a quiet bike ride, or enjoy a leisurely evening walk, this cycleway is perfect for you.

It is impossible to visit Strathfield and miss out on the park tucked away between Chalmers Road and Homebush Road. Previously used as a private golf course, the park is an idyllic destination that features three playgrounds for the little ones, sports courts, BBQs, jogging trails as well as a filtered water station for easy rehydration.

Make sure you sample food at some of the suburb’s most popular spots; including the Jang Ta Bal Korean Charcoal BBQ, Pom’s Thai Restaurant as well as the fire Kitchen for an unforgettable dining experience in Strathfield.
