West Head Lookout

The West Head Lookout is an iconic lookout point located within the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, and among the most magnificent in Sydney. If you are looking for a place to soak in Mother Nature’s majestic beauty, then look no further.

The lookout point is located at the most easterly end of the park. To get here, visitors need to take a drive through the park along the sealed West Head Road that leads to the lookout.

This is a remarkable chance to learn more about Australia’s flora and fauna. Note that entry fees are chargeable at the park.

The good news is that there is parking available onsite, from where the lookout point is just about 50 metres away. Additionally, the lookout point is fully accessible, making it an ideal place for the physically challenged too.

As mentioned above, this lookout point has magical views of the area surrounding the park. To the north, you should be able to spot Broken Bay and the Hawkesbury River that flows westwards. It is impossible to miss the tranquillity of Lion Island, which stands majestically as if it’s guarding the waters.

To the east of the West Head Lookout lies Barrenjoey Head, whose iconic landmark is its famous lighthouse. You will also notice a sliver of white sands that stretch out. This makes up the pristine Palm Beach whose white sands are in sharp contrast with the blue of the waters; making a stunningly beautiful setting for nature lovers.

After soaking in the views, take some time to enjoy a picnic at the serene picnic area. Let the children let off some steam at the nearby playground at Bobbin Head. You could also visit the Bobbin Head Information Centre to learn more about the park and its heritage. The Aboriginal Discovery Walk is also a short distance away and is a culturally significant location.

The West Head Lookout is a beautiful day out and should be one of your favourite lookouts in Sydney. Just remember to carry your camera!
