Pioneers Memorial Park in Leichhardt is a peaceful park and one of Leichhardt’s most beautiful green spaces. The recreational park is steeped in rich history; one that is perhaps captured by its unique name.
The park, formerly a Balmain Cemetery, got its present name in 1941 when it was designed to honour the pioneers of the district.

It is also a family-friendly destination, so be sure to bring the kids along for a fantastic day out. Start with a visit to the Pioneers Memorial Park Playground. This play area includes an array of play equipment such as a ropes course, swings, as well as slides. For the kids who want a bit more of an adventure, nothing compares to the exhilaration of the fort and bridge climb. The best part about this section of the park is that it is fitted with soft flooring to protect the little ones in case of an accident. The play area is also shaded, making it quite popular with visiting families.
A tour of the Pioneers Memorial Park is incomplete without visiting the Bicentennial Rotunda; a popular location for holding outdoor events. Depending on the time of your visit, you may be able to catch a free movie or, during Christmas, Carols at the park.
Also, look out for the Memorial that was built in honour of those who lost their lives in service to the country during World War I.
Pioneers Memorial Park is easily accessible using Norton Street in Leichhardt.
