Some of the items on display include clothing, office equipment, antiques, household items, as well as books. There are also documents and photographs that tell the story of the region in vivid detail.
A casual walk through the museum and visitors are always fascinated by the ‘Underwear Through the Ages’ collection, which shows some of the underwear worn in the 19th century and the periods that followed.
Look out for the ‘Clean and Decent’ collection that shows a complete set of washstand china, in addition to quirky information about bath time in those days. There is also a photography collection that takes you back in time to an era before digital photography. This collection also has a brief history of photography in the 19th century.
Other exhibitions worth checking out include Xylonite (a type of material that was once used before the advancement of plastic), hats, toys, war memorabilia, as well as local industry items. The beauty about this is that the displays are changed regularly, so there is always something new to see and enjoy.
Entry to City of Canada Bay Museum is free for all. Donations are welcome.
