The farm’s origins can be traced back to the early 19th century when it first began operations. The farm still retains its countryside charm, with the main activity being the opportunity to encounter the different farm animals and enjoy a picnic lunch.
Some of the animals you can expect to see at the farm include cows, pigs, horses, goats and sheep. On occasion, visitors can also come face to face with ponies, a turkey and even a camel. The farm is also home to many of Australia’s native animal species; including kangaroos, koalas, emus and a variety of reptiles.
Most of the animals are found within enclosures, but there is an animal nursery where children can touch and feed the animals. Note that animal food is available for purchase at the farm, and that the visitors are not allowed to feed the animals with anything else other than the animal feed provided on site.
In addition to enjoying the chance to be with the animals, Calmsley Hill City Farm also has a handful of tour activities to enjoy. The tractor rides around the farm are a highlight, which has an audio commentary about the farm.
The farm also has a number of shows during the day including sheep shearing, milking cows and a working dog show. Other amenities at the farm include a cafe, a kids playground, a gift shop, as well as picnic sites.
Calmsley Hill City Farm is easily accessible from 31 Darling Street in Abbotsbury and free parking is available on site.
