Head to Martin Place and look at the beautiful tree lit up each night leading up to Christmas. Choir singers will belt out Christmas tunes and there will be plenty of Christmas cheer in the Pitt Street Mall. Thousands of overhead lights will turn the street into a magical wonderland perfect for families with kids to enjoy.

If you want to travel out of the Sydney CBD, head to the Hunter Valley Garden’s Christmas Lights Spectacular, where 8km of illuminated pathways and sparkling lights will be stretched over 13 hectares. Photos with Santa and other fun activities are also on offer.

Last-minute shopping for that elusive Christmas gift is also a popular pastime in Sydney, and many of the larger shops and department stores are open until 9pm (or even midnight) on Christmas Eve.

If you want to spend a night indoors, tune in to Channel 9 on TV to watch the Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight, a yearly tradition. This huge event is a massive Christmas celebration where families come together to sing along to Christmas carols. It features live music and performances of popular Australian artists, famous TV personalities and a choir.
