The Sydney Colorfest is a vibrant community event that takes place for a one day every April. The main highlight is the throwing of bright, organic coloured powder every thirty minutes to symbolize friendship, love, and freedom.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event, with activities curated for all age groups. Talented local DJ’s will be spinning tunes all day long, while international cuisine and dishes serve as festival fare. Take note that as food and beverages will be served, event organizers are prohibiting bringing your own to the event. Given that the nature of the event involves throwing coloured powder around, it would be in your best interest to ensure your electronic gadgets and smart phones are protected in a plastic bag or sleeve.
Be prepared to get drenched in colour; come in white but leave in colour! It’s recommended to wear comfortable sandals or shoes which you don’t mind getting coloured powder in. Individuals who wear contact lenses may also want to bring glasses or goggles to protect the eyes. Powder throwing follows a schedule as well; every thirty minutes a countdown will remind the audience that it’s time to toss your powders. Only non-toxic, eco-friendly, and water-soluble Zhilmil powders are used. It is made with food-grade colour and corn starch. You may purchase your colours on the day of the event; it will be available while stocks last. Only certified powder will be allowed into the festival; thus, it will not be permitted for attendees to bring their own powder to the event.
Children may spend their time at a designated playing area. Parents should also take note that the event tends to be filled with stampedes of people dancing and jumping, so it’s necessary to ensure your children are kept in the safe area.
The ticket prices for Sydney Colorfest are: $30 for adults, $18 for kids aged 5-12, $18 for pensioners, and $80 for families. The events take place at the Showgrounds at the Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, New South Wales from 11AM to 5PM. The event will go on rain or shine.
