The Queer Screen Film Fest is one of the biggest LGBT film events in Australia. The week-long celebration aims to raise awareness of sexual diversities and gender identities through queer film.
Taking place every September, the festival showcases films, shorts, and documentaries across a wide range of LGBTIQ angles. There are over 2 dozen creative works to enjoy from Australia as well as many countries around the world. Aside from the movies, the opening night is something to look forward to, as well as other programs that change each year. Festival passes are available in bundles of 5 or 10, ideal for sharing with friends and family.
The Queer Screen Film Fest is also a platform for queer filmmakers to participate in a competition of Australian short films. A brand-new addition to the event is the Queer Screen Pitch Off, an initiative that helps LGBTIQ filmmakers in Australia compete in a pitch to win $10,000 in capital for the production of short films. The events are well-attended by the local community, with thousands coming to see the films.
The films are screened at the Event Cinemas George Street, located at 505-525 George Street. The cinemas are open from 10AM to 9:30PM.
