The HMB Endeavour is a vessel on display and one that best captures the journey of discovery by Captain Cook. This ship is one of the world’s most precise replica vessels, so take a step back in time and try to imagine what this voyage must have felt like by taking a walk around its decks.
Other vessels worth checking out include Thistle (the smallest vessel in the collection), Akarana (the oldest vessel), as well as the Krait Trawler. In addition to the ships, the Australian National Maritime Museum also hosts regular events; such as the weekly Family Fun Sunday, the Seaside Strollers Tour, as well as a host of kids’ activities.
Free Wifi is available in the museum, and there is a cloakroom in the main foyer. The museum is accessible for wheelchairs and prams; however, the ships are not, as there is climbing and narrow spaces. There is a museum kiosk on site where you can purchase lunch or a light snack, and there are also picnic tables on-site if you would like to bring your lunch.
The Australian National Maritime Museum can be reached via train. Alight at Town Hall or Central Station, and the museum is a 20-minute walk from there. If you wish to drive, you can park at the Harbourside Car Park for around $15 per day with a rebate from the museum.
